Gabrielle Coppola

I come from a background of producing photographic work and manga-like graphics, gravitating towards self-portraiture, the conceptual, and the surreal. Through tertiary education I have expanded my technical skills in both painting and photography, broadened my ideas, and honed my personal style. I am interested in analyzing social conventions and cultural pathologies and how these effect individuals and groups. I am also interested in spirituality, feminism, and the misunderstood. I like to use a lot of blacks accented by intense colours. I create a combination of dynamic and stagnant atmospheres, at times referencing the surreal or supernatural. The feeling of my work is often very feminine, and addresses women’s issues and experiences.
