Laneway Showcase is our rotating exhibition that runs in different areas of the large, bright, and modern main foyer at Te Atamira, Queenstown.

Entry in the Laneway Showcase is available to our Artist Members only, free of charge.
Shows run for 7+ weeks each. Calls for new work are posted on social media, via email and newsletter. Work is offered for sale on a cash and carry basis through the Te Atamira shop.

We encourage artists to pro-actively engage with our Arts Coordinator, Kasia Hebda, to discuss showing works in Laneway Showcase at artscoordinator@queenstownartsociety.co.nz.

In addition to single work presentations, the Laneway Showcase supports collaborative projects, curated group exhibitions, and experimental initiatives that make dynamic use of the space. Artists with proposals are invited to submit their concepts for consideration.

Marion Marquand - "Which Art is Modern" - Mixed Media on Board - 100 x 74cm - Which Art is Modern? An Art Lecturer once told me that abstract art was invented by white male artists in the 19th century. However I have seen the most remarkably contemporary art in museums of ancient art creations all over the world. I have tried to feature some here. The oldest piece is more than 20,000 years old. The youngest about 600 years old, from ethnic peoples with no connections to Western Art Traditions. These works are echoed by Henry Moore, Picasso, Rodin, Siskind, Brancusi Dubuffet, Klee and many more white male artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, but were never invented by them. I believe art has always come from a sophisticated corner of the human mind - $4,800
Katie Robinson - "Autumn at Carrick" - Acrylic on Board in Tray Frame - 42 x 42cm - I live in Alexandra, where the weather and changing seasons have a constant influence on my work. Summers are hot and dry, winters are crisp, and snow can linger on the mountains for months while the valley below turns shades of purple. The light changes by the hour, and with it the mood of the landscape. I studied science, including geology, before becoming a painter, and that background has given me a lasting fascination with the forces that shape the land and the way light transforms it. The landscape appears throughout my work, but rather than painting exactly what I see, I use colour and abstraction to express how a place feels. I'm interested in the "energy" of a landscape as much as its physical form, creating paintings that are inspired by real places while leaving room for memory, imagination and personal connection - $810

Melissa Broadbent - "Overflowing" - Acrylic on Canvas - 101 x 101cm - This one had a mind of its own from the start. I set out for soft, muted blooms, but the flowers had other plans - some turned bold and saturated in deep reds and blacks, others got playful and turned into loose, sketchy outlines that barely touch the canvas. There's a real range across the canvas, from a rich, moody cluster on one side to soft pinks and near-blank space on the other, with “ghost flowers” throughout that feel like they snuck in when I wasn't looking. Eventually we found our rhythm, and I love where it landed. It's got depth without taking itself too seriously, the kind of piece that changes a bit depending on where your eye lands. A painting with a bit of everything, and honestly more fun than what I first pictured. It'll add a playful, layered energy to any space - $1,900
