Gabrielle Coppola is a multimedia visual artist based in Queenstown, Aotearoa New Zealand, working primarily in painting, photography, and illustration. Gabrielle’s work is deeply rooted in the landscape of Whakatipu, where she has lived for much of her life.

Her art blurs the boundaries between genres, rendering the land itself as a sentient presence, drawing on personification through feminine figures that echo myth, memory, and the collective unconscious. Her practice, shaped by an interest in Jungian psychology, explores the often overlooked space where the psychological meets the spiritual.

In her photography, Gabrielle seeks to capture liminal moments, with a dreamlike quality, pairing gothic undertones with reverence for wildlife. Whether shooting native birds or crafting ethereal portraits, she invites a slightly uncanny kinship with the more-than-human world.

In the oil painting Ice Queen, a spectral goddess figure sits before Walter Peak (Te Taumata-o-Kanuka), embodying the glacier that once carved out the Whakatipu Basin. Her crown of icicles, schist throne, and the mask of a taniwha in her hand interlace geological history, indigenous narrative, and personal symbolism, including her own experience of masking neurodivergence while living with ADHD.

In 2024, Gabrielle curated the Queenstown Art Society's Winter Tale exhibition, bringing together local artists to explore seasonal narratives, with her own work featured prominently.

She then ran Spellbound Art Studio at Country Lane, a space for her paintings, photographs, and intuitive tarot readings. She now creates from home, takes tattoo bookings, and continues to curate community exhibitions.
